Rivers Angels Edge Nasarawa Amazons in Thrilling Women’s Final
The women’s final served up a classic rivalry clash between defending champions Rivers Angels and Nasarawa Amazons. Former youth international Shola Shobowale was the standout in the first half, scoring a brace in the 8th and 20th minutes to give the Amazons a commanding 2–0 lead.
Undeterred, the Jewels of Rivers roared back in the second half. Taiwo Ajibade, former captain of Nigeria’s U-17 team, pulled one back in the 57th minute, and minutes later, Rivers found the equaliser.
With the game tied at full-time, penalties were needed. Goalkeeper Anderline Mgbechi—who was later named Best Goalkeeper—scored the final spot-kick to seal a 4-2 victory for Rivers Angels and secure their 10th Federation Cup crown.
Kwara United Triumph in Men’s Final After Nerve-Wracking Shootout
In the men’s final, Kwara United overcame resilient underdogs Abakaliki FC in another tense battle that ended 0–0 after regulation time.
The Afonja Warriors had several chances during the match, including a thunderous strike that hit the woodwork in the 31st minute. Wasiu Alalade appeared to have broken the deadlock in the 57th minute, but his goal was ruled offside.
In the penalty shootout, Kwara United held their nerve to win 4–3, sealing their first-ever national title.
