The curtains have been drawn on the  preliminary phase of the 2024 FCT School Sports Festival, at most of the eight centers. Like in virtually all the zones, the last day of çompetition in Kuje, saw finalists emerged in Table Tennis, 4x100m and 4x400m relays.

Coordinator of the centre, Saraya Dackling described the rejuvenated games as a huge success and commended the students for competing within the ambits of the rules and regulations.

"The organization in Kuje zone was superb. You can see from the events, that Athletics went fine, the football matches also went fine, and so were other ball games and Table Tennis. Thankfully, there were no casualties, and the competitors were  disciplined."

John Anyebe of GSS Abuja at 30, Pegi defeated his counterparts from GSS Kuje and the Department of Mass Education (DME) 2-1 and 2-0 respectively to pick the ticket to the finalé in Table Tennis; while Elizabeth Danjuma of GSS Kuje defeated Prisca Okike of GGSSS Kuje 2-0 in the senior girls category.

"I feel very happy because I told my parents I must win the game, and I have just done so", said John Anyebe.

For Prinsca Okike who lost the senior girls table tennis final, ßhe said "I'm ok with the result. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, but I have learnt from this loss".

In some other event, JSS Kuje outshined JSS Pasali and DME to win the Junior Girls 4x100m relay race, but JSS Pasali punched the ticket in the Junior Boys category ahead of JSS Kuje and DME.

The 4x400m mixed relay saw JSS Pasali take victory in the Juniors category; JSS Kuje finished in 2nd and DME placed 3rd. Likewise, GSS Kuje literally breezed past GSS Tukpechi and GSS Abuja at 30 to win the Seniors  4x400m relay.

GGSSS Kuje also made light walk of GSS Kuje and DME in the Senior Girls 4x400m relay, just as GSS Kuje won the Senior Boys category ahead of GSS Abuja at 30, and GSS Tukpechi which came 3rd.

The primary school pupils were not left out as Science Primary School, Kuje outshined First UBE Primary School, Kuje in the 4x100m relay race, as well as in the 4x400m Boys and Girls relays.

Games Mistress of Science Primary School, Kuje, Mrs. Roseline Nwafor said hard work was responsible for her wards dominant performance, in all the categories.

"Sports is part of education. Some of them may not be good in the classroom but excellent in sporting activities. Also we have our training sessions in the morning before classroom activities as well as in the evening."

Friday Joshua reports that Science Primary School, Kuje alongside eight Junior and Senior Secondary Schools will represent the Kuje zone in the grand finalé, scheduled for March 11-14 at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, and its adjoining facilities.

And from Abaji, Austin Uwakwe reports that the final day of the zonal preliminaries witnessed the finals of most of the events.

VEI Abaji under mass Educ triumph over GDSS 8-6 on penalties after their Senior Boys football final ended 1-1 at full time; in the Junior Boys final JSS Kekeshi beat JSS Naharanti 2-0. In the Senior Girls final, GGSS Abaji defeated GSTC Abaji 2-0; and in Volleyball GGSSS  Abaji overcame VEI 2-Love.

Giving his impression about the conduct of games, the Director, FCT Sports Department, Hashimu Adamu expressed delight on the level of competitiveness of the athletes, cooperation by the schools, and the unrivaled media coverage the competition has enjoyed from the very beginning.

In athletics, at the Karshi Centre, the
3000m Senior Girls Final, was won by Adamu Hephzibah (GSS Karu) while
Olugboye Olabisi (Fosla Academy) placed second.

The 3000m Senior Boys final was won by Benjamin Alfa of Fosla Academy; Mohammed Tijani of GSS Karshi was 2nd; and Abdullahi Abubakar of GDSS Karu was 3rd.

The 200m Junior Girls Final gold medal went to Jaiye Gbemisola of Fosla Academy; Igwe Goodness of JSS Karu took the Silver; while
Adebayo Esther of JSS Jikwoyi got the Bronze medal.

From Kwali Zone, Emmanuel Fashemi reports that action continued on Day 4 of the fiesta, with the final, in football
Junior Secondary Schools category; and Javelin and athletics in all categories.

In the football final, Simon Emmanuel superb volley in the first half was enough for JDSS kwali to beat JSS Barko 1-nil to advance to grand finalé.

Meanwhile the 4x400m relay for Junior Boys, was won by JSS Barko; while JSS Kwali central won the Girls event. In the Senior Schools relays, GSS Dangara picked the tickets in the 4x400m for Senior Boys and Senior Girls.

In the mixed relays JSS Barko won the gold in the Juniors, while GSS Dangara won the gold in the Seniors category.

In Javelin, JSS Kwali  was the only school register, and that gave them automatic qualification.
