Abdulrahman Abdullahi has entered the record books as the youngest player to feature in the third-tier domestic football league, Nationwide League One, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.
Abdulrahman, 13, is a JSS3 student of Excellent Secondary School, Zuba, Abuja, and son of former Nigeria U20 National Team, Flying Eagles Coordinator, Umar Baba.
The wonder kid plies his trade with Capital City FC and was handed the captain’s armband when his side crossed path with Supreme Court,FC at the Area 3 Pitch, Abuja, on Saturday, May 13.
Abdullahi Abdulrahma could not save his Capital City side as Supreme Court condemned them to a 2-1 defeat.
And the midfielder wasn’t pleased with the result despite drawing applause from spectators and officials when he emerged with the captain’s,armband.
The youngster Abdullahi, spoke to his club’s media soon after the gritty contest, declaring that it was a ‘dream come true’ for him playing in the game and hearing that he is the youngest player in the history of NLO at his youthful age.
“It was a ‘dream come true’ for me and I can`t express the joy in me for this feat because I have been hoping to play at this level since I started playing football at the age of 5 years and I want to thank my team mates for helping me to achieve my dream”, an emotional Abdullahi said.
While feeling so sad about the loss of the game to Supreme Court FC, said the defeat was ‘a bad one’ for him, especially as it was his debut match.
“I am really sad that we lost my debut league game but I believe that it’s football where three results always available, win, lose or draw.
“And today, we have lost but for me that is football, we will keep working hard for the future”.
Mallam Adbulrahman Umar Baba, father of the teenage dazzler and who is also the President of Capital City FC Abuja, described his son’s history making career debut as a day of happiness for him looking at the efforts he has been putting into playing football.
“I’m a happy father today seeing my son making his league debut in the NLO Division One and for him also becoming the youngest ever at his age to play a league game.
“Let me tell you, this is a boy who at least trains 3 times a week and is doing perfectly well in his academics so you can see the joy in me as a proud Father”.
With the 2-1 defeat to Supreme Court, Capital City FC only managed nine (9) points in the group with FOSLA FC having eleven (11) points and are top of the group standings gointo tomorrow, Mondays last clash versus Busdor.
Busdor are on Nine (9) points and victory over FOSLA in this break or bend clash will emerge as overall winners and ultimately pick the ticket from the group going into the next round of playoffs for the NNL ticket.
