A faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara has expelled Abdulaziz Yari, ex-governor of the state.
The faction which Kabir Marafa, senator representing Zamfara central, belongs to, also suspended Lawal Shuiabu, APC deputy chairman (north).
The development is coming hours after the faction of which Yari belongs to moved against Marafa.
The senator, a governorship aspirant, was expelled over alleged anti-party activities.
But in a statement on Monday, Sirajo Garba Maikatako, chairman of the party, said the expulsion of the former governor and Shuiabu was sequel to the roles they played in the loss of the party in the state.
Miakatako said the former governor frustrated APC’s efforts in Zamfara to conduct primary polls and this laid the foundation “for the electoral misfortune that befell it in the state.”
“After reviewing the outing of our party in the last general election and the outcome of the supreme court judgement, we hereby dismiss the former governor of Zamfara state, Abdulaziz Yari and the Deputy National Chairman Sen Lawal Shuaibu from the APC,” he said.
“Following this development, we are urging them to immediately surrender all the belongings of the party in their possession including funds.
“Yari and his boys scuttled the efforts of our national headquarters to conduct primaries on the 3rd and 7th of October 2018.
“His nefarious activities led to the death of six persons and over 200 others were injured.”
This is coming at the heels of a faction of All Progressives Congress (APC) expelling Kabir Marafa, senator representing Zamfara central, for alleged anti-party activities.
In a statement on Monday in Abuja, Shehu Isah, the state party publicity secetary, said the decision was reached during the party’s state executive committee meeting in Gusau, the state capital, on Sunday.
Also expelled were Ibrahim Wakkala, former deputy governor of the state, and Aminu Jaji, lawmaker representing Kauran Namoda/Birnin Magaji federal constituency.
He said the committee invoked the provision of the party’s constitution which spells out punishment for members who take legal actions against the party or any of its officials without seeking redress internally.
Isah said an appeal cannot be made to the expulsion until court cases are withdrawn.
“The provision of Article 21 (A) ii and (D) v of the party’s constitution was activated against the three members for violation of the constitutional provision and engaging in acts inimical to the interest of the party,” he said.
“Consequently, a resolution was passed expelling all of them from the All Progressives Congress.
“We are therefore by this notice informing the general public that from the date of the said resolution, the aforementioned members cease to be members of the All Progressives Congress and consequently are disentitled from enjoying right, privileges and benefits from the party.”
Marafa had challenged the APC over the primary election that was conducted by a faction of the former ruling partyC in the state.
