Reasons have emerged on why Rivers state governor Nyesom Wike described Labour Party (LP) candidate, Peter Obi, as the hero of the 2023 presidential election.
Wike who spoke in Port Harcourt the ability of the former Anambra State Governor to scuttle the chances of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar, thereby preventing the North from holding on to power, bestowed on him a heroic status.
He said despite Obi not having been declared the winner, his participation in the election ensured a southerner emerged as the President-elect.
According to Wike, Obi recorded victories where the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, would have won, thereby retaining power in the North.
He said; “Obi is my hero. If Obi did not contest, power would have gone back to the North. The whole of South-South and South-East that PDP lost, if Obi did not contest PDP would have won.”
