WEEKEND SERMON with Pastor Amos Praise

BACKSLIDING.

TEXT: Galatians 5.1

Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.
(Jeremiah 8:5)
Why then is this people of Jerusalem slidden back by a perpetual backsliding? they hold fast deceit, they refuse to return.
Therefore
What is back sliding? It’s Simply means gradual or deliberately going back or returning to the state of something you once denounce, left or abandoned, mentally, physically and spiritually.
In life it is natural to move forward, grow up, learn new things which enhances our ability to act accordingly as humans.
This principle is actual by God to man, unfortunately the kingdom of darkness also uses it on the opposite direction, backsliding don’t just occur, it’s as a result of in alertness and ignorance of what we should know.
Backsliding is reverting to sin or wrongdoing.
The nation of Israel, taking undue advantage of God’s faithfulness to His promise to Abraham, had an unenviable history of backsliding.
And each time they did, they would cry unto God after suffering avoidable hardship. He would forgive them and raise a leader to lead them back to Him in repentance But their repentance, not backed by reverential fear, would not endure.
Jeremiah’s vision was about the impending desolation of the nation. When a believer falls or realizes he/she is in a wrong direction, he/she should pray and seek God for wisdom to get right direction.
But in the case of Israelites They chose to trust the words of false prophets, not minding how God felt.
There is danger when leaders and members in Christian assemblies are close to the level of Israel’s apostasy; when they reject God’s word, and teach doctrine and commandments of men, and take righteousness for granted, Blasphemous teachings are being dished out from many pulpits today and sound doctrine have been relegated to the background. Yet, God is watching. Backsliders need to repent today before it is too late.

God’s long-suffering should lead you to repentance, (that is confession and brokenness In Heart) when you then gain righteousness and your lost grounds, bounce back , standfast and never fall again.God bless you.
Amen.
