Veteran Athletes Visits Youth And Sports Ministry, Indicates Interest To Partner With FG

Members of the veteran athletes under the auspice of Nigerian Athletes
Commission today paid a courtesy visit on the Permanent Secretary of
the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development to intimate him
of their existence and the need for a synergy between them and the
Ministry in the formation and preparation of athletes towards a
successful outing in their Games.

The Permanent Secretary commended the Olympians for such a noble
partnership which he said will be of immense help to the athletes.
According to him, athletes should not be relevant only during their
active years. Their contribution will go a long way to add to the
large spectrum of ideas that will help to mentor the athletes to
excel.

He however advised them to come up with a document of their
establishment as a guiding instrument of their responsibilities and
expectations from the Ministry.

The Chairman of the Athletes Commission Olympian Olumide Oyedeji a
former Basketball player who played for the country for over 20 years
said formation of the Commission is in line with International Olympic
Commission (IOC) because they believe that “Athletes are always at the
middle of everything”.

He further said that Athletes relates better with fellow athletes
hence the need for the Athletes Commission which is also an affiliate
of World Athletes Commission. They will be there not just as veteran
with wealth of experience but as athletes Ambassador to represent the
athletes, keep the athletes psychologically and emotionally sound
thereby making the management of athletes easy.

The Athletes Commission was represented by Olumide Oyedeji, Bose Kafo
a former Table Tennis Player and 5 time Olympian and Femi Ayodogun.
