Super Falcons Returns To Winning Ways, Beat Costa Rica 1-0

The Super Falcons of Nigeria are back to winning ways thanks to Esther Okoronkwo’s first half strike against Costa Rica at the Revelation Cup.

The Super Falcons who gave in their best in that encounter, decided to erase get a grind result to restore their pride.

With this result over Costa Rica, it is now safe for the team to continue rebuilding ahead of the FIFA world cup.

The win for the Nigerians is the first after eight matches, a situation that has left their fans wondering on what is happening with the most successful Women Team in Africa.

Coach Randy Waldrum made a couple of changes to the team that started the games against Mexico, and Columbia by handing game time to new players.

In goal, Esther Balogun replaced dependable Chiamaka Nnadozie; Esther Okoronkwo, and Jennifer Onyi Echegini were also given a starting berth.

It was Jennifer Onyi Echegini and Esther Okoronkwo who combined to finally hand Nigeria the first win after seven consecutive defeats. Okoronkwo who calmly controlled the pass in the 18 yard box fired a powerful shot to the left roof of the net leaving Costa Rica goalkeeper and defenders scrambling on the ground.

Super Falcons played a much better game compared on Tuesday night to the last two games at the tournament.
