The Super Eagles of Nigeria has sent out defending champions and five times Nations Cup champions, Lions of Cameroon 3-2 in a pulsating match worthy of being a match of Trojans.
Nigeria drew the first blood through Ighalo before Cameroon scored two goals within three minutes but Nigeria came back to in the same manner score two goals also within three minutes. Odion Ighalo scored a brace and Alex Iwobi scored his first Nations Cup goal to bury the Cameroonians.
The Cameroonians were as usual very rough in approach and officiating was questionable.
Former African star players Samuel Etoo of Cameroon and Kanu Nwankwo of Nigeria were seen in the VIP stand playing theatrics to support their countries. Cameroon has never beaten Nigeria since and their last two encounters were 4-0 for Nigeria at Uyo and 1-1 in Yaounde on the way to the Russian world cup.
The atmosphere was ecstatic as the Eagles plucked a feather into the eyes of the Lions of Cameroon to blind and capture them. What a match?
Nigeria will meet the winners between Egypt and South Africa in the quarterfinals.
