
Sixteen Wrestlers will represent Nigeria in the wrestling event of the 12thAfrica Games billed to hold in Morocco from August 19 to 31.
President of the Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Daniel Igali who made this known at an unveiling ceremony in the Yenagoa camp of the team said the wrestlers comprise six women and ten men as well as two coaching staff, confident of a good performance.
Mr. Igali, a former lawmaker in the immediate past 6th Bayelsa State House of Assembly who has just been penciled as Commissioner nominee by Governor Seriake Dickson, however regretted that ten wrestlers and three coaches who qualified for the Games had to be dropped, stressing that in 2015, Wrestling presented 23 athletes who won 19 medals including 9 gold.
The Olympic, World and Commonwealth Gold Medalists commended the Federal Ministry of Sports for taking good care of the athletes, charging them to give their best in Morocco at the Africa Games.
Captain of the men’s wrestling team, Amas Daniel and his women’s counterpart, Blessing Oborodudu, as well as star wrestler Odunayo Adekurouye assured that they would give their best at the Fiesta.
Team Nigeria which will feature 4 wrestlers in Graeco-Roman, 6 in Freestyle and 6 in Women’s wrestling will depart the country next Wednesday
