Seven time Nigeria league champions and 2019/2020 CAF Confederation cup hopefuls, Rangers International F.C of Enugu was at the weekend confirmed as the king of football in the ‘Coal City’ after a 3-0 bashing handed F.C Inter at the inaugural Enugu F.A Super Cup.

The encounter which drew a number of appreciative crowds inside the main bowl of Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium saw care-taker gaffer, Benedict Ugwu hand starts to Olawoyin Ibrahim, Kehinde Adedipe, Obinna Eleje and Sadick Abbas who shone like a million stars against the state league champions.

Rangers would have been up as early as the first five minutes by as much as three goals but for some misses by Ifeanyi George and sharp reflexes of goalkeeper, Nnamani Sunday for the amateur side.

The amateur side gained in confidence with Rangers’ early misses and ventured forward with Ibe Izuchukwu leading the attack but were stoutly resisted by the Isiaka Oladuntoye led defense line.

Kehinde Adedipe broke the deadlock on 32 minutes with a simple finish off an Olawoyin’ assist with Ifeanyi George netting the second on 40 minutes with a near post finish after he was set up by Obinna Eleje.

Substitute, Dauda Madaki put the icing on the cake with a 90th minute finish off an Ifeanyi George’ assist as the six time national Aiteo cup champions did well to contain the Enugu state league champions who enjoyed a man advantage for the last half hour of the match as Ugwu Uwadiegwu got the referees marching order for decent.

Coach Benedict Ugwu said after the encounter, “It was a good display by my players as our opponent gave us a good fight. We continue to work on our strategies to fashion out a more clinical play in subsequent matches. The contest was good and the innovation was great from the F.A.”

Recall that Rangers won the Enugu state F.A/Aiteo cup with a 2-1 win over Star Plus F.C while F.C Inter were 3-0 winners of Purple Krown F.C at the final match of the Enugu state league.
