Osuji Patrick Ikechukwu, President and financier of Campos FC, has bluntly refused to admit that its now a two horse race between his side and Coal City United for the sole ticket in the ongoing Nationwide League One playoffs at the Awka City Stadium, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.
The young club boss spoke after his 10-man side’s 1-0 ‘special’ win against hard fighting A&A Kiviasennus in a Match Day four top of the bill clash on Tuesday.
“It’s not yet a closed contest”, the Campos boss sounded. “It’s still an open contest”, he added and rolled out a mathematically calculation to buttress his point.
Despite the win, Ikechukwu remained humble and instead, paid Glowing tribute to A&A for their quality.
“This team is absolutely good. They are a strong side. They have offered us the toughest challenge so far in the playoffs.
“They were not like this in the previous games. Its either they have fortified their team or they have improved with the games.
“That’s why I said it’s still an open contest. If they win their remaining games, which I know, is not impossible, and we (Campos) and Coal City United drop points, then you see what I mean”.
Emeka Njoku scored a late winner following a sweet counter attacking play minutes after Ebere Opara was sent off for uppending an A&A attacker who was straight on goal.
The club financier revealed that three of his key players missed Tuesday’s fixture after flying to Abuja for visa related issues ahead of trials in undisclosed club/s in Europe.
He named the three players asAwodike Ikeji Chukwubuikem, Okoroji Livingfaith and Opara Melvin Onyekachi.
“But they will be available for our next match on Friday”, he said.
Campos Football Academy, he disclosed, has a long history of producing talents with many of their products going on to play for the various levels of the national teams.
“At the moment, Nnadi Toochukwu, our product who plays for Bulgarian side, Botev Plovdiv made Coach Ladan Bosso’s final list for the U20 FIFA World Cup in Argentina.
“Similarly, Super Eagles goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho began his career with us and made the 2013 U17 Golden Eaglets squad to the Dubai World Cup which they won”.
Campos FC were relegated from the NNL last season. He admitted his open disposition to investors including Imo State Government in the team.
“I’ve kept this club up and running,since the dawn of the 90s.
“At the moment, I’ve a team registered for the NLO2. All this have financial implication. But if an investor shows up, I would be most willing to do business”.
Campos are sitting top of the table with 12 points, same as Coal City United but with superior goal difference.
