
The Nigerian Basketball family has lost a prominent member, Mrs. Eunice Nwamalubia Okeke nee Ezemba who reportedly died on 29th June, 2019 at 47 years after a brief illness.
Eunice was a member of the National Basketball women’s team that won Nigeria her first medal, a Bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland in 1990.
Eunice who starred for the First Bank Basketball Team in her days is survived by three boys and a girl two of who we learnt are University graduates.
According to the Ezeani Okosisi of Ichida, Chief Magnus Nworah Okeke the Basketball Trojan will be buried on Thursday at her compound, Ubulu-dunu Uruaniudo village, Ichida in Ichida Anaocha local Government Area of Anambra State after a funeral service at St. Augustine Catholic Church in the area.
The Ezeani Okosisi stated that there will be a service of Songs and Wake Keep for her at her compound on Wednesday before the traditional funeral visitations by various groups and friends including the Basketball family on Friday.
Her Captain at the Commonwealth Games then, Mrs. Stella Agu told me on Phone that both her colleagues and the Nigerian Basketball Federation have concluded plans for a befitting burial for her which they were working on as at the time of the conversation.
