Nigeria national league side, Bimo sporting club have recorded their first league win in two years.
Bimo SC of Abuja defeated Green Beret of Kaduna by two goals to nil to break the jinx of not winning any match in the league since the creation of the club in 2018.
The Abuja based club is owned by Chinedu Okoye, a retired swiss referee who decided to relocate to Nigeria after many years in Switzerland
Chinedu Okoye bought a slot in the expanded Nigeria national league in 2017/2018 season after the management of NNL noticed disparity in the number of clubs participating in the northern zone compare to the southern zone.
The amount of money paid for the slot later led to controversy which got to Economic and Financial Crime Commision,EFCC with some members of Club owners association invited to state their side of the alleged misappropriation of fund levelled against them by Bimo sporting club.
However, while the chairman of the club was battling with some board members of the league at the same time tackling the issue of poor officiating in the league, the club was struggling to survive in the league with loss after loss being recorded and a huge turn over of players in a bid to find a lasting solution to poor performance of the club.
The club later pulled out of the league due to poor officiating which the chairman said is affecting the growth of the game and inimical to development of young players.
According to Chinedu the essence of creating the club is provide avenues for young Nigerian players to horn their skill and use it as platform to launch their career
Though the dream was later caught short with the club pulling out of the league but in 2019 season they are however readmitted into the league with coach Ngozi becoming the first female coach to lead the technical crew of an NNL side. However that Cinderella story was later cut short due to poor results and without victory in any of their matches though she ‘cited poor working environment and lack of motivation’ when she resigned and that continues even when coach Jonathan Omale was named the coach some few days later as he struggled to find a balance among his players until he was able to break the jinx against Green Beret in the second to the last match of the season.
The question now is will this be an upturn in the fortune of the club though they have been relegated to the nationwide league after failing to win any of their matches until now.
