As President Muhammadu Buhari inaugurated a committee to implement the new national minimum wage, Minister of Labour and Employment Chris Ngige has revealed that no specific time has been stipulated to commence the payment.
The implementation Committee which is headed by the Head of Civil Service Eyo Eta came into being after President Muhammadu Buhari signed the new minimum wage into law in April .
At the inauguration ceremony, the secretary to the government of the federation Boss Mustapha, said the committee has four weeks to complete its assignment. He said that they are expected to hold their inaugural meeting on May 20.
The committee comprises of the ministers of labour and employment, finance, health, education and budget and national planning.
Others are the attorney general of the federation and minister of justice, director general, budget office, secretary of the federal judicial service commission, secretary, National Assembly Service Commission and chairman, National Salaries, Income, and Wages Commission, who will serve as the committee secretary.
Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labour and Employment, said there are still processes and procedures to be carried out before the implementation of the wage even though it has been signed into law.
He however did not state when the payment would commence, saying that arrears would be paid anytime implementation of the new wage begins.
