Maureen Mmadu Welcomes NEROS/ANFA Cup ‘Replay’ Vs Awka Angels

Former Nigeria international, Maureen Mmadu, says she cherishes the prospect of her team filing out against Awka Angels in this year’s NEROS/Anambra FA Cup (women) final, describing it as a ‘replay’ of the 2022 edition, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.

“Yes, I congratulate them. They are a good side. It’ll be a tough game (playing them in the final) which is like a ‘replay’ of last year’s final”, the ex Super Falcons midfielder and later Assistant Coach said after the Awka Angels saw off GP World 3-1 in Friday’s second semi final at the City Stadium to set up a final confrontation versus title holders, Maureen Mmadu Kiddies Camp.

Three unreplied goals, two in the first half, from Matha Chidinma Okonkwo (3mins), Ajana Janefrancesca Chukwunazaekpere ( 21mins) and Nwanakwere Cynthia (63mins) helped the defending champions seal their place in the Cup final, at the expense of Rising Stars of Ojoto.

And Mmadu would heap praises on the strenght, and qualities of the 2022 runners-up who have again earned the bragging right to test team’s resolve to retain the Cup.

“Like I said earlier, they are a good team, it will be a tough and interesting final, which can go eitherway.

“But we would have to go back to the drawing board to ensure we corrected identified areas of lapses in our team”.

Transfers to other clubs and examinations forced MMKC to field almost a second-string squad against Rising Stars in Friday’s semi final tie.

“We missed the services of about five or six of our first team players.

“Some went on transfer to other NWFL Club’s, others were busy with their school examinations.

“Most of the players we paraded were promoted from the youth team.

“But I remain eternally grateful to God who saw us through to the final. It wasn’t easy.

“The most important thing is that we won and have qualified for the 2023 Federation Cup, to represent Anambra State again”,, Mmadu harped.
