Mamelo Makhabane the Banyana Banyana of South Africa earned her 100th cap on Monday with the match against Madagascar at the on going Cosafa Championship.
She joins Janine Van wyk who has clocked 170 caps and Noko Matlou with 160 caps.
Mamello was quite delighted prior to the match against Madagascar as she travelled memory lane via her twitter handle.
” I remember the first time I represented my country and today I will celebrate my 100th cap. It has been a great , long and enjoyable journey…to many celebrations”.
South Africa went on to defeat Madagascar by three goals to nil to advance to the next stage. South Africa has been exemplary in honouring their players both male and female players.
This would however be a step in the right direction if members of the Super Falcons know when they achieved a milestone and be celebrated. It’s on record that Onome Ebi a remarkable and experienced defender who has played for Nigeria in 5 FIFA women’ world cup does not know her exact caps and goals scored so far for the Senior National team.
These and many innovations are imperative to celebrate and motive these players while still active.
