The International Shooting Sport Federation, ISSF, the governing body of the Olympic Shooting events in rifle, pistol and shotgun disciplines, and of several non-Olympic Shooting sport events, has pledged to supply the Nigerian Shooting Sport Federation, NSSF, with shooting sports weapons and equipment.

President of the Nigerian Shooting Sport Federation, NSSF, Brigadier General Lonsdale Oladeji Adeoye(Rtd), disclosed this to the media department of the Federation during the week in Abuja.

According to the President, “One of the greatest problems of the Federation is facilities. We don’t have any range that is of modern standard, except that of Delta State, which is a covert range, and that’s the only range that can enjoy modern day shooting activities in Nigeria”, he stated.

General Adeoye added that the Federation is also challenged with lack of adequate weapons for training and championships.

“Acquisition of new weapons is another area of concern for the Federation.

“But we are happy that the International Shooting Sport Federation, ISSF, has promised the NSSF new weapons and facilities and we are waiting for the delivery any moment from now. These weapons and facilities include rifles, electronic targets, and paper targets, amongst others.”

He said once the NSSF gets those weapons and equipment, both the shooting athletes and coaches would be driving towards making global impact, as the first quarter of the year would focus on trainings.

“For now, our major activities are hinged on the training of coaches, athletes, instructors and judges. We are patiently waiting for the weapons and equipment to arrive then we can swing into action and the world would get to know about us more, as we would be eligible to participate in various global championships”, he enthusiastically said.

The President further revealed that the Nigerian Shooting Sport Federation has lined up numerous national activities for this year and would make them public soon, as it is working hardly to feature at different world shooting championships.
