Eleven-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal coasted through to third round with a confident straight-sets dismissal of German qualifier Yannick Maden 6-1 6-2 6-4.
The third set was more of a test for the Spaniard, who lost his serve twice, and found himself level at 4-4.
But Nadal’s unbeaten record on Court Suzanne Lenglen continued after Maden struggled to return.
His only two defeats in 90 matches here happened on the main Court Philippe Chatrier.
Nadal will take on David Goffin, the 27th seed, for a place in the fourth round.
Goffin has never snatched a set from Nadal in three encounters on clay, but the reigning champion is wary of the Belgian’s threat.
