Factional President of Nigeria basketball association,Tijani Umar has accused Federation of International Basketball Association, FIBA Africa of being compromised
Tijani umar made this known at the NBBF stakeholders consultative meeting and training of technical officials in Abuja where all the major stakeholders in Nigeria basketball were in attendance and he used the opportunity to raise the lingering issue hampering the growth of basketball in Nigeria and wants FIBA to wade into the crisis after it seems that FIBA Africa has failed to solve the 2-year lingering crisis.
‘I have lost faith in FIBA Africa because for two years they have seemed not to be able to find solution to the crisis bedeviling Nigeria basketball despite several visits to the country, the promise of conducting another election after stating that the two elections conducted in Kano and Abuja failed to meet up with the requirement’
‘FIBA Africa has shown to be biased by manner they go about in handling the crisis,they have refused to conduct another election as they promised two years after the crisis started rather they are trying to wear down the opposition by attrition he said’
Nigeria basketball witnessed a huge growth under Tijani Umar led board with senior basketball team qualifying for back to back Olympics while also winning the FIBA Africa nations cup for men for the first time.
Over 25 state basketball chairmen and many club owners,coaches and referees were in attendance for the three day consultative meeting with the hope of coming out with solution to the basketball crisis .
