The Federal Government is creating opportunities in various sectors for the youth to ensure they are employable in this 21st Century digital economy.
The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo made this remark while answering questions during a panel discussion in D.A.R.E Conference in Abuja.
The Vice President, who was ably represented by the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Sunday Dare, said that there is a new culture of building up our institutions to ensure that they function and have a value system which rewards hardwork and merit.
In answering the question, “what are the three key areas that the Ministry is planning to ensure achievements in the next three years”, the Honourable Minister said that the issue is whether our youth are employable or not, in Nigeria and also globally,since we live in an era where government alone cannot provide white collar jobs for all.
Hon. Dare, further stressed that the ministry has innovative initiative ideas in the pipeline such as Digital Youth Nigeria and W.E.P – Work. Experience. These will plug into the already existing government initiatives like the N-Power and N-SIP.
The Nigeria Online Youth Assembly(NOYA) is an aggregator website to be launched around November to engage the youth and connect them to opportunities.
According to the Minister, all the programmes are aimed at equipping the youth with new skills thereby equipping them to be employable and to become entrepreneurs.
The ministry will work with relevant stakeholders such as the Ministries of Education, Agriculture, Health, Science and Tech, Communications and Central Bank of Nigeria the minister stressed.
D.A.R.E is an acronym for Determined. Aspire. Re-imagine and Express. The conference organized by YouthHubAfrica seeks to foster collaboration between African youths, the government and Civil Society Organizations to work together towards realizing the Sustainable Development Goals.
