The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has restated its
commitment and resolve to collaborate and partner with Corporate
Organisations to form a synergy of efforts to achieve national
aspirations and visions for youth and sports development in the
country.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports
Development, Mr Olusade Adesola made this known during a courtesy
visit by the management of Ngamec Nig. Ltd. While commending the
purposeful and acclaimed achievements of the Company in the area of
empowering youths in the south east, Mr. Adesola emphasized that
matters of youth development affects every strata of society,
stressing, this present administration in every wisdom acknowledges
that in building a nation, primacy of consideration must be accorded
youths, which is the greatest investment. It is this philosophy that
informed government’s resolve to merge youth and sports under one
umbrella (FMYSD) in view of the dominancy of youths in sporting
activities, the Permanent Secretary stated.
To this end, Mr. Adesola confirmed that there are ample opportunities
for corporate partnership with the Ministry to further enhance its
mandate and vision for youth and sports development in the country. He
seized the opportunity of the visit to apprise the management team of
Ngamec Nig. Ltd. on the impactful strides of the federal government in
the area of establishing capacity building cum empowerment centres
across the six geo-political zones of the country; as part of efforts
to addressing youth restiveness and unemployment. This, according to
him, has also enhanced social cohesion amongst the youths.
Speaking further on the issue at stake, the Permanent Secretary
averred that Sports has changed the lives of numerous youths under the
auspices of the Ministry and its platform of 42 Sports Federations,
and other ancillary sporting competitions and games locally and
internationally. As an instance, he stated that the 18th edition of
National Sports Festival (NSF) created 63 millionaire from the cash
price reward by the Delta State Government to her athletes who
clinched the Gold medals; likewise the indirect empowerment of more
than 20,000 Officials and Coaches engaged for the Festival. The
Permanent Secretary said ‘’when youths are fully engaged, it reduces
crime and hopelessness. Sports have given hope and satisfaction to our
youths’’
In his remarks, the Chairman/Chief Executive of Ngamec Nig. Ltd; Chief
Obioma King Onwuneme stated that the Company has passion and track
record for empowering youths in the south east, and consistently
focused its attention and energy on giving direction to them on
how best to run with their destiny. To add fillip to this, he recalled
that 151 youths have graduated both home and abroad through the
Company’s scholarship scheme. Against this backdrop, Chief Onwuneme
stated that the Company look forward to partnering with the Ministry
to further enhance its corporate goal of empowering youths for self
reliance and socially responsible.
