Abia Warriors attacking winger Paul Samson fondly call Drogba has attributed the wonderful run of the team toward the tail end of the season to the qualify in side, technical savvy of their manager and experience of the management.
‘Drogba’ who has been out of Abia Warriors last two matches due to injury had a chat with exclusivenews.com and stated that ‘at a point we thought we would not make it because we were playing but results not coming our way’
He further said ‘all thanks to God,we prove it at last’
Abia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia concluded their 2018/19 Nigeria Professional Football League campaign on a devastating note crushing visiting Kano Pillars 3-0 at the Umuahia Township Stadium to finish fifth on the group ‘B’ table with 31 points from 22 games.
The Warriors, who have been awesome under their returnee manager, Emmanuel Deutcsh with three wins and a draw in their last four matches, took control of the final game early when Atilola Abdusalami Tunde scored his third goal in the last three home matches, as he controlled Ibrahim Olawoyin’s fine cross, before blasting home with his lovely left foot to raise the curtains in the 9th minute before the heavens opened up.
The first half ended 1-0 in favour of the home team.
The second stanza was full of drama as Obi Samson, who was brought down in the box in the 50th minute, picked himself up for the assignment but blasted the ball into the spectators stand.
However, the Warriors top striker this season, atoned for his sins just a minute later when he stole the ball from Pillars keeper, Ibrahim Idris and tapped into an empty net for his seventh goal of the season and his third in as many games.
Idris got injured in the tango with Obi leading to the second goal as he was stretchered off and his replacement, Danladi Isah was welcomed with the third goal.
The heavily built goaltender mistimed Emeka Isaac’s speculative shot which sailed straight into an empty net at the hour mark.
Obi Samson had the opportunity to make it 4-0 shortly after but he surprisingly missed the target with the goalkeeper at his mercy.
Thereafter, it became a matter of prestige for Pillars as they fought hard to make the scoreline more respectable but their hosts were in no mood to grant them such favour holding on to win their fourth match in five outings where they scored 14 goals and conceded only five in the process.
The team is expected to start re-strategising for next season which is expected to kick-off after the nations cup or in August.
