Eguma Pleased With Rivers United ‘Mental Strenght’, ‘Character’ In 3- 0 Win Against Asec Mimosa

Stanley Eguma, Technical Manager of Rivers United says he’s delighted with his wards positive attitude and strong character in the Pride of Rivers emphatic 3-0 thumping of Asec Mimosa of Ivory Coast in Sunday’s CAF Confederatiin Cup group B fixture inside the Godwill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, Exclusivenews.com reports.

The Nigeria Champions stumbled by similar margin in their opening group fixture away to Diables Noirs, Congo, last Sunday.

Eguma had blamed ‘lack of concentration’ for his team’s defeat last week but would pull all the positive tunes this time as his boys responded emphatically to that loss with a clinical performance against the 1998 African Champions.

“It was a difficult game. As former champions,,Asec Mimosa came here for real business, certainly not to admire the beauty of Uyo and the Nest of Champions”, starts an obviously elated Eguma moments after the final whistle.

“But my players knew the importance of the game. They know its important we won so they never allowed the Diables Noirs defeat to weigh them down.

“They showed ‘mental strenght’, character’.

“They fought hard and well enough and deserved the victory”. Malachi Ohawuchi handed The Pride of Rivers an early lead, firing into the net just a minute after kick off. Ohawuchi’s stunning strike proved a welcome appetiser as to what the Nigerians have up their sleeves.

It was also enough warning to the visitors who rather than heed, instead had their woes compounded three minutes before the break when home boy, Ukeme Williams doubled the home team’s advantage as Rivers United held a healthy 2-0 advantage going into the break. Just three minutes after the restart, N.N Kadiang made it 3-0 for Stanley Eguma’s side .
Rivers United will travel to Motema Pembe of DR Congo next weekend for a matchday 3 fixture of the TotalEnergy CAF Confederatiin Cup group B fixture.
