Holders, Edel FC (formerly Nnewi Utd), Ozalla Football Academy, Rangers FA, Future Hope and Emmykings Football Academy were handed bye in Thursday’s draws for the 2023 Anambra FA Cup held in Awka, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.
This means the five clubs will not take part in first round of the competition, the first to be organised by new,FA Chairman, Chikelue Iloenyosi, who has not stopped assuring that ‘this year’s FA Cup will be one to be remembered in a very long time’ saying ‘all the participating teams and players will have something to go home with’.
26 male clubs will take part in the competition which has been scheduled to get underway on March 3, 2023.
Lambada FC and Awkuzu FC have been slated to play the opening match on 3rd March inside the Awka City Stadium.
In the female category, four clubs will Jostle For star prize and bragging right to represent the state at the national level.
They include Cup holders, Maureen Mmadu Kiddies Camp, MMKC, Rising Stars, Awka Angels and GP World FC.
In the draws conducted Thursday afternoon, defending Queens, MMKC will tackle debutants, Rising Stars while 2022 Finalists, Awka Angels will aim for GP World scalps for a place in the final.
It wasn’t only an afternoon of draws as the launching of the Anambra State Football Association website, www.anambrafootballasso.com, preceded the draws event.
“This is the first Anambra FA Cup under my watch as chairman”, starts Chikelue Iloenyosi.
“We’re out to make it,a dream one such that winners will be seen to be real and deserving champions and who will be worthy ambassadors of the state at the national level.
“We don’t want a situation whereby representative of the state will be knocked out at the preliminary stages, no, we won’t allow that”, Iloenyosi said.
