DMGS Emerge Champions As Diocese On The Niger Secondary Schools Cricket Tournament Ends In Style

The famous Dennis Memorial Grammar School, DMGS, Onitsha, emerged overall champions in the male category as the Diocese On the Niger Secondary Schools Cricket Championship came to a fitting end Saturday in Onitsha, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.

The one-day ‘demonstrational contest’ aimed at acquainting the students with rudiments of Cricket as a sport, was not exclusively meant for the boys alone as the girls equally had their fair share of participation.

In the girls category, ArchBishop Onyemelukwe Memorial Secondary School, Ogidi, came first after winning their two games while Anglican Grammar Suchool, Onitsha, finished in 2nd position after plucking a win and conceding a defeat in their two games.

Anglican Secondary School Ogidi lost their two matches.

Patterson Memorial Grammar Suchool finished in second position behind DMGS in the boys category
while Arch Bishop Onyemelukwe Secondary School came third just as
St Christopher’s Secondary School pulled out midway into the competition.

Organisers said the Cricket exhibition game was part of the Church’s effort in building all round children for God and society.

“The church is primarily concerned about the spiritual upbringing of children”, State Sir Victor Nwangwu, who takes charge of the Diocesan Sports activities.

“But you can’t achieve children’s spiritual excellence in isolation of their physical well being.

“So, the church tries to balance the two for a physically fit and sound minded child”, Nwangwu said.
