It is now confirmed that Elkanemi Warriors of Maiduguri will return to the second tier league, Nigerian National League next season.
The Warriors from Maiduguri who invested both human and financial resources in the 2022 Nigerian National League season to return the Premiership, only spent one season, before making a journey back to their familiar terrain in the League.
Elkanemi who are languishing at the bottom of Group A of the Abridged League, has only gathered 9 points from 17 matches. They have a goal difference of minus 18. If they eventually win their last match of the season against Plateau United, they will finish with 11 points which will not be enough for them to escape relegation.
They are joined in the group by either Nasarawa United. Nasarawa United last of the season will be formality match against high riding Bendel Insurance. The Benin Arsenals will want to maintain a clean sheet all through the season, having gone 17 matches unbeaten. They will want to sustain it against Nasarawa United In Jos. Nasarawa with nothing at stake in the match will not play with their full strength. A win for them will mean finishing with 16 points which can not take them any where. Kwara have 17 points already.
In Group B, Dakkada FC of Uyo will return back to the NNL next season, after three seasons in the Premiership. Dakkada are having 13 points from 17 matches. A win for them in Akure against Sunshine will see them finishing with 17 points which will not be enough for them to remain in the NPFL next season. They must have started preparing for a new life in the NNL next season.
Dakkada may likely be joined by either Wikki Tourists or returnee Bayelsa United. Wikki Tourists with 15 points from 16 matches, an outstanding match against Rivers United and their last match of the season against Lobi Stars, looks set to start a new life in the NNL. Wikki Tourists will play Rivers United In Bauchi, and Lobi in Jos. While Bayelsa United will want to overcome Niger Tornadoes in Yenagoa to remain in the NPFL.
