Angolans in Lunch With The Devil

Angolans in Lunch With The Devil
November 04 22:39 2019

Debutantes Palanquinhas of Angola will at 1630 hours of Tuesday line up against the hard fighting Red devils of South Korea in the round of 16 of the world male football championship. Both sides have never met before not even a friendly match.
Angola came to beat New Zealand and Canada 2-1 each which surprised book makers but that was enough to earn them 6 points and qualify for next round. That Brazil came to beat them 2-0 could not stop Angola from moving to the round of 16 despite being a new comer to the world stage. Angola scored 4 goals and conceded 4.
That current performance translates that the defense of Angola is shaky conceding at least a goal in each match. It also means that their strikers are not hitting the target. The truth is that they are wasteful and naïve.
At the African level, they were not a force to reckon with until the Angolans shocked the present crop of Golden Eaglets 2-1 to bag the Bronze in Tanzania at the African finals.
The Red Devils came second from group C behind France with 6 points, scored 5 goals and conceded 5. The team clinched 2-1 victories over Haiti and Chile but France stopped them 3-1. It is not that the Korean defense is not working but they lose momentary concentration and good opponents can punish them for that.
The Red Devils though acting tough always have a pedigree of losing neat to opponents. Here is there record: 1987 Quarterfinal (0-2 to Italy); 2009 in Nigeria Quarterfinal (lost 1-3 to Nga); 2015-R16 (lost 0-2 to Belgium).
The Red Devils were twice Asian champions in 1986 and 2002; Silver Medalists in 2008 and 2014; 4th place in 1998 and 2018.
This Round of 16 game will be tense and tough to decide. The team with the error goes out not the team with the bench (the team with super subs on the bench). The match will be a bit rough because the two teams will be under pressure to move to the quarters. Lee Tae-Seok who bagged a red card in the second match will be back for Korea. Angola has 5 yellows against them while Korea has 4.
Let us hope that the Video Assistant Referees will not mar the game.
