The 2023 edition of theDiocese on the Niger Secondary Schools Cricket Championship has been slated to hold today, Saturday, February 18 at the Central School, Onitsha, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.
The one-day event is scheduled to start at 9.00am with no fewer than seven matches slated in the various categories of the Cricket sport.
Sir Victor Nwangwu, a former Secretary of Anambra State Football Association and who oversees the organisation of the Diocesan Sports, hinted that the championship gets underway with the 6 Overs as Dennis Memorial Grammar School, DMGS, take on Arch Bishop Onyemekwe Memorial Secondary School in the opening match.
“We intend to evaluate our intensive cricket development program which has been on for over one month”, says Nwangwu, a former Rangers ace..
“To this end, a one-day series of matches has been scheduled to be played at the Basilica Central School, Saturday 18th February, 2023 at 9am”, Nwangwu said before rolling out full fixtures for the day’s games.

He went on to invite all Principals of the participating schools to grace the championship.
“We will expect all Principals to witness the matches and join in the group photographs.
“We shall use St Christopher’s equipment and those we shall collect from the State Cricket Association for the matches.
“From St Christopher’s, we require the following; 3 Bats,
2 pairs of Batsman’s pad,
2 pairs of Batsman’s gloves,
one pair of Wicket keeper’s pad, one pair of Wicket keepers gloves and 2 Helmets”, Nwangwu said of assistance from the school.
