Chairman senate committee on sports and newly re-elected ebonyi state football association chairman, senator obinna ogba has disclosed that The board of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and its embattled president, Ibrahim Gusau, who was allegedly impeached from his position last week following the controversial $130,000 IAAF missing money are expected to appear before the Senate Committee on Sports this week, before the expiration of the 8th Assembly.
In a report monitored on Sports Yarn Class (SYC) on Sunday, Chairman, Senate House Committee on Sports, Senator Obinna Ogba, expressed shock over the negative developments facing the AFN over the missing money.
Furthermore , Ogba says he was also surprised to hear that former Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung, returned N75m as part of the money before leaving office last week.
In May 2017, instead of paying $15,000 as contribution to the African Championships, the global athletics body paid $150,000 to the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and noticed the anomaly two months later.
Since then, the money has not been accounted for and Nigeria has failed to raise the amount after a promise by the minister who had initiated an investigation into the whereabouts of the $135,000 until recently when former minister paid part of the money.
