Olori Babes, Pelican Stars Gain Promotion to Women Premier League

Olori Babes and Pelican Stars have gained promotion into the Nigeria Women Premier League for the 2019/2020 season.

Pelican Stars was relegated at the end of the 2017/2018 season of the premier league and have now sealed a comeback to the Nigeria Women Football topflight after just a year by beating Moje Queens 3-0 in their final game of the NWFL Pro-League.

Diminutive attacking midfielder Chiwendu Ufuomba scored a brace in the 20th and 45th minute, while her striking partner Joy Okoronkwo scored at the 82nd minute to make it 3-0.

In the other match of the day, Olori Babes defeated Police Machine FC by 2-0, thus becoming the only side that didn’t concede any goal at the NWFL Pro-League playoffs.

Eunice Godwin and Chika Idika scored in the 60th and 82nd minutes respectively to seal their team’s spot at the 2019/2020 Nigeria Women Premier League.

Olori Babes finished with 9 maximum points after winning all games played got promoted to the Nigeria Women Premier League.

They were joined in the promotion train by Pelican Stars of Calabar, that finished with 6 points.
Pelican Stars thus returned to the Women Premier League after they were relegated last year.

Meanwhile, Police Female Machine of Uyo, and Moje Queens FC remain in the lower division for another season, they will attempt to grab the promotion ticket next year after another full season in the lower cadre.
