NYG 2021: Team Bayelsa Suffer Mix Result In Asaba

It was contrasting fortunes for Team Bayelsa on Day Two of the ongoing zonal for elimination tournament for the National Youth Games at the Stephen Keshi stadium in Asaba, Delta State.

In football, Bayelsa State U15 Boys produced a composed performance with a one nil victory over Edo State after edging out Akwa Ibom State 1-0 in the opening day of the tournament as Akwa Ibom State beat Cross River 2-1 to keep their qualification hopes alive.

Bayelsa State will need at least a point to book the football ticket when they face Cross River on Monday morning.

Bayelsa State male team Handball relinquished a late four point lead to draw 22-22 against Edo State having suffered a 16-24 defeat to rivals, Rivers State who are looking likely to get the handball ticket with two wins out of two games.

In the female category, team Bayelsa lost their second game in a row after the defeat to Edo State 6-13 and also to Delta State 22-5 and will next face Edo State.

Earlier on Saturday, Bayelsa female Basketball team pummeled Edo State 5-0 and have a game tomorrow while the male counterpart failed to follow their female counterparts as they narrowly lost 10-9 to Delta State.

Bayelsa hockey team exited the elimination series with two defeats to Edo and Delta State same with the cricket team who lost Edo State 24-25 having lost 47-48 to Akwa Ibom.

However Bayelsa State Beach Volleyball team also kissed the tournament goodbye after two defeats losing to Edo State and Delta State with one win against Rivers State,while the female Volleyball lost 2-0 to neighbors
Delta State.

The zonal elimination games will end tomorrow with few sports to remaining as states prepare to leave the Delta State capital on Tuesday.

The National Youths games will take place from 10th to 19th of October, 2021 in Ilorin, Kwara State.
