NOC Issues Communiqué After AGM Meeting in Abuja

The communique of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), Annual General meeting held at the Starview Palace Hotel, Gwarinpa Estate in Abuja on Thursday December 12, 2019 was chaired by the President, Nigeria Olympic Committee, Engr Habu Gumel. Present also were the Hon Minister of Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare ably represented by Mr Adesola Olusola, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, the Executive Committee, International federation; ANOCA, all members of the Executive Board, our esteemed Patrons, Sponsors, members of the various NOC commissions and Observers. 

  1. The NOC commended the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR who is our Grand Patron for his continued support to NOC and sports generally in Nigeria, most especially his leadership role and the level of hospitality displayed during the visit of Dr. Thomas Bach, President, International Olympic Committee (IOC) to Nigeria in November.
  2. The NOC commended the vibrant and energetic Mr. Sunday Dare, the Hon. Minister of Youth and Sports for the good work he has been doing since his assumption of office. Thereafter, the minister was presented with a plague of appreciation by the NOC for his total involvement leading to the completion of the ANOCA building  and extreme support during the visit of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), President, Dr. Thomas Bach. Also,  Mr. Adesola Olusade,  Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports was presented with a plague of appreciation for same.
  3. The NOC expressed its most sincere appreciation to the Patrons of NOC for their kind patience in staying throughout the programme which lasted for two days, especially, the Chairman of the forum, HRM Oba Saheed Elegunshi, who pledged his total commitment to the course of the Olympic movement in Nigeria. 
  4. The NOC urged all federations who are in the process of qualification to the  2020 Tokyo Olympic games in Japan to rigourously follow up the process which will ensure participation process in order to achieve podium performance at the games. The NOC and the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development will continue to work harmoniously for the achievement of the above.
  5. The AGM unanimously approved the NOC President Activities Report with a robust applause. Furthermore, the AGM also approved the finance and audit reports for the year 2018 and commended the board for financial transparency while the current auditors contract was renewed for another year.
  6. The motion for the election of the 4th Vice President was adopted. Henceforth, this position shall be contested for by only women. Women can still vie for other positions but in conformity to the gender balance in line with Agenda 2020  of the International Olympic Committee.
  7. The NOC thanked the media for their unbiased reports and support. We encourage them to continue without looking back or discouraged in their reportage.

Lastly, the NOC wished all delegates safe journey back home and wish them happy Christmas and prosperous year 2020 in advance.
