Minister of Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio Inaugurates Presidential Monitoring Committee on NDDC,Emphasizes Oversight Functions of the Ministry

in a landmark step to towards repositioning Niger Delta development commision,NDDC to achieving its mandate of proving meaningful infrastructural development for the wellbeing of the people of the Niger Delta region, the president of the federal republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu buhari approved a presidential monitoring committee to oversee the affairs of the commission .
The minister of Niger delta godswil akpabio while inaugurating the committee said the ministry has responsibility amongst others to initiate and formulate policies as well as the execution of programs and project to achieve accelerated development of Niger Delta .
He went further by saying that the committee is not an aberration rather their appointment is in compliance with the provisions of part iv,section 22 of the NDDC act as amended which states inter alia that:

There is hereby for the commission a monitoring committee which shall consist of such number of persons as the president,commander-in- chief of the armed forces may deem fill to appoint from the public or civil service of the federation.
Section 21 (2) of this empowers the committee to
,(a)monitor for management of the funds of the commission and the implementation of projects of the commision: and
( b) have access to the books of account and other records of the commission at all times,and submit periodic reports to the President, Federal Republic
