Coach James Nwabueze of Future Stars Basketball Academy of Lagos has stated that Nigeria is greater than any player no matter his pedigree.

The Coach who was speaking at the background of not-so-good performances of both Nigeria’s basketball teams to the Olympics, which have met by scathing remarks and misplaced accusations by some Nigerians, said “Nigeria is bigger than an individual. Nigerian basketball is not about Kida or any other individual or group. If people like Diogu are genuinely concerned about the future fortunes of the game in Nigeria, let them come forward with plans to help develop the game”.

Meanwhile, discerning lovers of the game, were quick to take solace in the fact that sometimes the best rated team to a championship could perform woefully against expectations, the management of the team could only learn from the experience and move ahead to prepare and perform better next time.

Reacting to some of the unguarded and selfish remarks as reasons for the unimpressive performances of both D’Tigers and D’Tigress, Coach James Nwabueze told Sports Chronicle Magazine that those who have continued to lambast the technical team and the leadership of NBBF are selfish and unpatriotic.

” I am miffed and disappointed in those saying D’Tigers didn’t do well because certain players were dropped from the team.

” In this regard, I want to tell the world that Ike Diogu, who’s been crying foul, was simply not good enough to make the D’Tigers Olympic team. Let him come out and name players in his position that he was better than,” Nwabueze, President of Future Stars Basketball Academy stated.

” I believe all players who went to the Olympics passed through the thorough and intensive camping sessions. Ike Diogu was talking about experience and I tell you, he hasn’t displayed the maturity expected of an experienced player.

” Everything about him since the Olympics were unexpected from a person of his pedigree”, Nwabueze further remarked.

” Enough of these selfish and unpatriotic attacks. Together and in unity, we all can make the game better and bigger,” he added conclusively.
