November 28 19:14 2021

Rivers United continued participation in the CAF Confederation Cup, on Sunday became slim as they surrounded their early lead in the first leg encounter of the elimination series of the tournament to recorded 2:1 victory over Al Masry of Egypt at the Enyimba International Stadium Aba.

It could be recalled that Rivers United adopted the Enyimba International FC Stadium as their home ground following the none acceptance of the Adokiye Amasiaemaka Stadium Port Harcourt by CAF.

Malachi Ohawume and Uche Onwuansanya combined in the 25th minute inside the box and the latter intelligently sloted home for the game’s opener

However, the Pride of Rivers joy was shortlived as Al Masry drew level almost immediately on the 27th minute.

Malachi Ohawume provided another assist this time as Ishaq Kayode scored on the 35th minute to restore their lead as both headed to the rooms for the first half interval.

There was little to come by in the second half as the match ended 2-1 in favour of the home side.

Rivers United will need to work harder to retain their slim lead when they go to Egypt for the return leg on Sunday, December 5.

The aggregate winner of the two-leg play-off will qualify for the group stage
